At Crossroads Dental Care, we know how traumatic it can be for patients to lose their teeth. It can affect their smile and their overall health. Replacing one or more missing teeth using dental implants helps to prevent bone loss, unwanted tooth shifts, difficulty with chewing, and deterioration of your jawbone. Implants also provide stable support for artificial teeth. At Crossroads Dental Care, our trained specialist can replace your missing teeth with Endosteal or All-on-Four Implants, which are permanent and made to look and feel like your natural teeth.
Endosteal Implants are surgically implanted directly into the patient’s jawbone. Once the gum tissue heals, a second surgery is performed to connect a post to the original implant. Finally, an artificial tooth (or teeth) can be attached to the post, either individually or grouped on a bridge or denture.
All-on-Four Implants are the least invasive way to replace a full set of teeth without multiple surgeries. This is a state-of-the-art treatment that allows a patient who has lost all of their teeth the opportunity to have an implant-supported restoration in one day. The process involves surgically placing two straight implants in the front of the mouth and two in the back at a 45-degree angle. Then a temporary set of teeth is screwed onto the implant. The lab constructs your permanent implants to attain the look you want, including the size and shape of your teeth. Once the implants heal, the permanent implants are screwed into place.
We are proud to offer mini dental implants which may be an excellent option for our patients who are missing teeth, but want to avoid the invasive surgery associated with traditional implants, or lack the bone mass in their jaws to hold them. Mini dental implants use the same structure as traditional implants but are smaller. Regular implants are approximately 3.4 to 5.8 mm wide, but the mini version is only 1.8 to 3.3 mm. They include two pieces: a post constructed of titanium with a ball on the end, and a socket piece with a rubber O-ring that attaches the tooth to the post. Mini implants can be used to support most types of replacement teeth including dentures, bridges and fixed crowns. We can often install mini implants in just one visit, with local anesthesia and dentures can often be attached the same day.
Mini implants can also be used to stabilize existing dentures while avoiding many of the issues that come with larger implants. The procedure is much faster, often does not involve sutures, and is an option for patients who do not qualify for regular implants. Best of all, with this minimally invasive procedure, dentures can usually be attached immediately, giving the instant benefit of stability.
